At Better Day Counseling, we’re here to help you make every day a better day.
My name is Melonee Gibson-Cabrera and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (MA, LPC).
In 2018, I opened the doors to my practice to patients in the greater Atlanta area — offering them a wide range of counseling services to guide them through life’s challenges and most trying times. I first noticed my desire to help others at the age of 12.
My aspiration to understand people, their behaviors, emotional adjustment and how it affects their decision making led me to wanting to become a counselor. Growing up, I was able to participate in community projects that supported assistance to the elderly via my church, and homeless via food pantries.
It developed my compassion for others and opened my eyes to the additional emotional stress associated with just simply living life. During therapy my goal is to educate, encourage, give support and empower my clients to understand themselves, any diagnosis they may have and manage it to create fulfilling better day lives.
As a Mental Health Therapist, I believe that people have the innate ability to heal themselves. Oftentimes our thinking influences our emotions which in turn affects our behavior. My approach to therapy is to adopt a teamwork concept wherein the client and I work together to address life issues.
Given the appropriate tools, along with their own desire for self-improvement, a person can improve their quality of life and discover strength in themselves that they were unaware of before. By creating an atmosphere of acceptance and encouragement of the client’s unique self-expression he/she is accepted for their strengths` and weaknesses.
Additional techniques are used to fit the client’s needs such as self-reflection, homework, challenging, meditation, imagery, role play, etc…
Over the years I developed the personal saying that has helped me through my own struggles “Life happens to everyone, but it doesn’t have to define you.” I developed this saying after witnessing how resilient people can be even after trauma.
